Miguel Medina, 53, of Bloomfield, was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault and several counts of child endangerment last October.

When he knew authorities were on to him, he fled the state, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said.

“Medina sexually assaulted and showed pornography to a female child when she was between the ages of five and seven years old from 2005 through 2007,” Valdes said Friday.

“As the investigation was beginning, [he] traveled to Puerto Rico, where he was recently located with the assistance of officers from the Department of Homeland Security in the Newark and Puerto Rico offices,” she said.

A detention hearing was scheduled this Monday in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson. Medina, meanwhile, remained held in the Passaic County Jail.
